ἀνθρακιά, ᾶς, ἡ (s. ἄνθραξ; Hom. et al.; Sir 11:32; 4 Macc 9:20) a charcoal fire ἀ. ποιεῖν (PGM 4, 2468) J 18:18. ἀ. κειμένη a charcoal fire on the ground 21:9 (the Latin vers.: incensos= ἀ. καιομένη would mean: a pile of burning charcoal). For ἀνθ. used in preparing fish, and the connection with J 21:9, cp. Creophylus of Ephesus [400 B.C.]: 417 Fgm. 1 Jac. p. 314, 23f ἁλιέας ἀριστοποιεῖσθαι … τῶν ἰχθύων … σὺν ἀνθρακιᾷ.
